SCUBA DIVING
"Shoot the Pass"
Some divers refer to shooting the pass as
a terrific adrenaline rush. They ride the rush of water on the ocean
current between the ocean and the lagoon. Tens of thousands of fish
pass by as the lucky diver enjoys the dive of a lifetime!
Outside the reef the variety and numbers of fish are
nothing short of spectacular.
Popular divesites are located at Tumakohua Pass, Garuae Pass, and
Central Park.

Fakarava
is nature at its unspoilt finest. It is
one of the larger atolls anywhere. It is 60 kilometers long and 25
kilometers in width with a broad lagoon (second largest after Rangiroa).
All the more area to explore! Here you will find a largely untouched
world with a plethora of birds and marine life living in very close
proximity. Rare birds, plants and crustaceons are here to find and
observe.

Fakarava in the Tuamotu Island Atolls
|
"... so pure
is the environment, that Fakarava is being considered as a UNESCO
nature reserve..." |
Along the miles of
quaint shores life is quiet and sublime in the villages, historic
coral churches and friendly welcoming islanders.
A mission was built here in 1870,
one of the first in the Tuamotu Atoll Islands. Despite this Fakarava
was one of the last islands to have a resort built. The 400 residents
today live in one of the most pictue-perfect spots on the planet.
|
| Among the unusual sights to see
here are a pearl farm, the outstanding sea slug smoke house and the
ancient village of Tetamanu. The real gems are the relatively untouched
scuba diving sights where divers can see barracuda, rays, hammerhead
and tiget sharks. |
