SCUBA DIVING
"Shoot the Pass"
Some divers refer to shooting the pass as
a terrific adrenaline rush. They ride the rush of water on the ocean
current between the ocean and the lagoon. Tens of thousands of fish
pass by as the lucky diver enjoys the dive of a lifetime!
Outside the reef the variety and
numbers of fish are nothing short of spectacular.
Popular divesites are located at Avatoru Pass, Tiputa Pass, and the
Aquarium.

Rangiroa is
beyond the reach of your imagination! It is a pearl of an island,
part of the Tuamotu island chain where 240 islands, each no more than
3 feet in elevation, lay upon the ocean for more than 110 miles. It
is surrounded by the legendary oceans Moana-tea (the leeward ocean)
and Moana-uri (windward ocean). The two main villages are Avatoru
and Tiputa where you can shop "island-style".

Rangiroa in the Tuamotu Island Atolls
|
"... the incomparable
brilliance and colors of the lagoon from jade-green to purple, completely
overwhelm the visitor who discovers this long ribbon of islets seemingly
in the middle of nowhere..." |
Rangiroa gets its
name from the "huge sky" that ancients associated with
the great length of the island. It is, after all, the 4th largest
Atoll Islands in the World. You shall see some 250 islands separated
by narrow channels of aqua and turqoise waters. In the center of
this giant ring of coral is the inside lagoon and Paio Motu.
|
| The Tuamotu Atolls are
a group of island atolls 300 kilometers (200 miles) nothrwest of Tahiti.
Each of the atolls is a delicate island surrounding a blue lagoon
so clear you can see to the bottom. They rise from the ocean a few
feet above sea level. Palm trees, coral beaches and friendly smiles
all await you |

Other Tuamoto Islands include Anaa, Takapoto,
Mataiva, Kaukura, Hao, Apataki, Takaroa, Makemo, Ahe.
|
| Rangiroa
is home to another kind of unique delight. Here you
can check into one of the most unusual hotels on Earth. The Kia
Ora Sauvage is comprised of only 5 "luxurious but primitive"
bungalows. |
