The Island of Moorea

Moorea

Because of its close proximity to Tahiti, Moorea is quick and easy to reach. There are also regular flights to Huahine, Raiatea, and Bora Bora

Moorea is also known to be a great getaway for families. There are plenty of activities for children and parents to experience together. Boating, snorkeling, splashing and the discovery of gentle sea creatures are favored activities. The Inter-Continental Beachcomber has a kids-only-camp for 4-10 year olds!

Swimming with the dolphins is a favorite activity at Dolphin Quest. Adults can swim side by side and children can wade in the waters with the gentle creatures.

The Magic Isle is the perfect descriptor for Moorea. It thrusts itself out of the Pacific Ocean in a gorgeous-green blend of colors. From atop the shallow lagoon you look back at the towering mountains and pick out the waterfalls, that tumble efforlessly in their relentless journey towards the ocean. Small village dot the coastline, quaint in their pastel colors, gardens and grand ornamental trees.

"... the ring road is only 60 miles long and would take a short time to drive except for the many beautiful stops that one must make..."

The sister island to Tahiti is an island of legend and history. The God Hiro was desirous of Rotui, the beautiful mountain of the island. The warrior Pai thwarted his plans to take her by throwing his spear and putting him to flight.

Many couples return to Moorea time and again. Here they find pristine and secluded beaches, lush mountains, verdant valleys, exlusive resorts and great dining and shopping. Consider a Polynesian SPA treatment, a sailing to Moorea's famous sunset glows or dinner at a classy restaurant.

Besides its natural beauty, Moorea is lucky to have many fabulous eateries, each in unique settings alongside the lagoon. Feast on sumptuous food from around the World in an open air restaurant close to the water. Mmmm!

Since the 19th century, the interior valley slopes have been home to plantations of cotton, coffee, and sugarcane. Now fields of pineapple spread across the fertile Opunohu Valley.
