A bonus to visiting the island of Taha'a is that the island of Raiatea
is very nearby and definitely worth seeing as well.
|
Taha'a is known as the Vanilla Island. Traditional
and quiet is the lifestyle here. Step back in time and step onto honey
sand beaches, hike up the verdant valleys, shadowed by the velvet
covered mountains.

the east, the road winds between Mt. Fareura and the indented
and craggy coastline to a small village with a pearl farm and
small turlte reserve |
In the fertile valleys the slice into the interior of Tahaa
you find local farmers on small plots growing watermelon, copra
and, of course, vanilla. |
| Centuries ago this was the sacred
island. Fallen battle heroes were carried to this island's shores
where their souls could be freed. Souls could then continue the
journey to Havai'i. |

Taha'a is 90 square miles of charm and class. Mt. Ohiri (590
meters) is the backbone of the island. Circle the island on
the 40 mile drive and stop in some of the eight quaint little
villages along the way. |
