The Island of Tikehau

Close to Tikehau and worth a visit are the island atolls of Manihi, Rangiroa and Fakarava.

SCUBA DIVING
"Shoot the Pass"
Some divers refer to shooting the pass as a terrific adrenaline rush. They ride the rush of water on the ocean current between the ocean and the lagoon. Tens of thousands of fish pass by as the lucky diver enjoys the dive of a lifetime!

Outside the reef the variety and numbers of fish are nothing short of spectacular.
Popular divesites are located at The Canyon, The Pass, and the spot known as Sharkhole.

& FAQ's

Tikehau is a snorkeler, Scuba and bird watching paradise. The proliferation of fish in the lagoon is astounding. The famous Jacques Cousteau declared that this could be the highest concentration of fish of any atoll. You can understand therefore that fishing is a way of life here. Local families actually farm the lagoon in designated areas. If you are having a culinary meal in Papeete (Tahiti Island) it is likely to come from this area. The atoll is also home to many bird colonies that have found their way to the small "motu". See the Isle of birds, where you find birds with comical names like red-footed gannets and brown noodles

Tikehau in the Tuamotu Island Atolls

"... in the Tuheiva Pass, the manta rays dance will alternate with the parades of shoals of barracuda and tuna fish..."

The island is called the Pink Sand Island. A graceful oval string of island pearls it is considered by some to be one of the most beautiful atolls in the World. Combine an abundance of marine life with fragrant tropical breezes and you can see why travelers come from around the globe.

The Tuamotu Atolls are a group of island atolls 300 kilometers (200 miles) nothrwest of Tahiti. Each of the atolls is a delicate island surrounding a blue lagoon so clear you can see to the bottom. They rise from the ocean a few feet above sea level. Palm trees, coral beaches and friendly smiles all await you
